A new era of simplified complexity

Welcome to Intelligent Energy Today, and welcome to a new Comverge. Here you will find news, views and discussion on everything from the complex supply and demand challenges we currently face to the regulation and technical innovations that will define the future of our industry.

To kick things off, I’d like to start by introducing you to Comverge’s new look as well as our cutting-edge solutions for an increasingly complex energy market.

Now you may have seen the backlash around the new logo that high street retailer GAP introduced, but I am confident that ours will receive a much more positive reaction.  As my marketing team tells me, the black square symbolizes Comverge: the final link that closes the energy loop and bridges today’s energy infrastructure to tomorrow’s era of renewables, regulation, and cost-effective energy use. It’s a simple image because our solutions simplify energy’s complexity for our customers.  I was certainly impressed, but more important than the logo, is the thinking behind it. Let me explain …

We call our new set of energy solutions Intelligent Energy Management.  Intelligent Energy Management evolved from our expertise in Demand Response. We saw the critical need for a comprehensive energy management system that could not only react to changes in demand but could also predict demand fluctuations, regulate supply, enable two-way communication between utilities and their customers, and adapt to innovations, like clean energy sources and electric vehicles.  Intelligent Energy Management addresses all of these issues, providing a platform that we can tailor to meet each of our customers’ needs.

We did all of this with certain realities in mind.  First, it’s anticipated that electricity prices will rise 50 percent in the next seven years.  Second, it’s predicted that electricity demand will rise 30 percent over the next 20 years.  And finally, the U.S. plans to rely on 100,000 additional megawatts of renewable energy by 2025, replacing some of the fossil fuel in use today.  Renewables are wonderful, but they pose supply challenges because the wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine.  With changes in pricing, demand, and supply on the horizon (and these are just some of the anticipated future challenges), Intelligent Energy Management provides the insight and control necessary for successful energy management.

Our new website has more details on everything I have touched on here – and probably a lot more, I know the team has been heads down on it for some time. It was time for a change and it was time well spent. That said, however much time we put in, we also know that we can’t do this alone, so hope you will all join us and share your thoughts and ideas on our ever changing industry.

More to come…
