With great excitement, we’re launching SmartPrice, Comverge’s comprehensive dynamic pricing solution. With SmartPrice, customers have incredible choice. They can use a range of different devices, including in-home display units, smart thermostats and mobiles devices such as the iPhone, to “set and forget” a control schedule for all high-energy use appliances. The choice doesn’t stop there though. We know there’s no one size fits all to energy management and that some people will want to treat their AC differently to their pool pump. With that in mind, SmartPrice allows consumers to control up to four discreet loads.
Simultaneously, utilities can aggregate customer participation data to get advanced insight into the capacity made available by consumer participation. This provides the holy grail of energy management programs…guaranteed capacity that can be dispatched at the push of a button.
SmartPrice also removes the complexity previously associated with dynamic pricing. It brings the benefits of flexibility and scalability through an integrated suite of software and hardware that adapts to multiple delivery systems—Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and broadband—and accommodates numerous pricing options, including Time-of-Use (TOU), Critical Peak Pricing (CPP), Real-Time Pricing, Peak-Time Rebate and more.
We designed our dynamic pricing solution with our IntelliSOURCE Demand Response Management System (DRMS) at the core. Through IntelliSOURCE, utilities can send day-ahead or real-time price signals that customers receive through their thermostats, on in-home displays, or through their Smartphones or tablets. Comverge’s IntelliPEAK digital control unit (DCU)extends seamless communication to in-home appliances as well, managing their energy demand without any additional hardware or installation costs.
SmartPrice builds on our dozen+ years of experience in dynamic pricing. We have worked with Gulf Power throughout this time to manage their automated dynamic pricing program, the largest in the country with almost 10,000 residential participants. Customers report a 90 percent satisfaction rate, and they pay a lower price for electricity approximately 85 percent of the time.
Likewise, we partner with Tampa Electric Company (TECO) to deliver their broadband-based dynamic pricing platform. More than 2,000 participants have enrolled in the program, and they have saved 12 to 15 percent off their annual energy bills. Since 2008, TECO has reliably shed, per customer, 3.1 kW during winter peak and 2.0 kW during summer peak.
